Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus since December, 2019 and has spread to more than 210 countries, infecting beyond 2 million people, with more than 1,37,000 fatalities. The Covid-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes. People with the Covid-19virus infection will experience mild to moderate symptoms including respiratory illness. Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. Most of the patients recover without requiring special treatment. No cure is available for Covid-19. Antibiotics aren't much effective against viral infections such as Covid-19. Researchers are testing a variety of possible ways for the new drug discovery and repurposing existing drugs. The FDA has approved the antiviral drug remdesivir to treat Covid-19 in hospitalized adults and children who are of age 12 and older. The FDA has also granted an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the rheumatoid arthritis drug Baricitinib to treat Covid-19 in some cases as it works against Covid-19 by reducing inflammation and having antiviral activity. It may be used in combination with Remdesivir in people who are on mechanical ventilators or need supplemental oxygen. There is an urgent need to explore various aspects of management and treatment of this disease including vaccines development. Across the globe, two vaccines from The United States of America and two vaccines from India have received EUA for the treatment.
